Captain becomes England's record Test run-scorer

The skipper Alastair Cook became England's highest run-scorer in Test cricket after surpassing Graham Gooch's record of 8,900 runs.

Most test centuries by Englishman.
Quickest batsman to 8,000 Test runs.
112th Test in a row, and England record.

Cook, 30, achieved the landmark on his 114th test match in the afternoon session on day two of the second Test against New Zealand at Headingley.

The left-handed batsman, who made his debut in 2006, has played four fewer Test matches than his own mentor Gooch.

Cook climbed up to 13th on the list of leading run-scorers in Test cricket, where Indias former batsman Sachin Tendulkar remains with 15,921 runs in 200 matches.
